Tehama County Children and Families Commission (TCCFC) was established as the result of the voters of the State of California passing the California Children and Families First Act of 1998 (Proposition 10). This is the initiative that added the additional tax to tobacco products. The Act recognizes the compelling need in California to create and implement a comprehensive, collaborative, and integrated system of information and services to support, and optimize early childhood development beginning at the prenatal stage to five (5) year of age.
The Act further recognizes that there is a compelling need in California to ensure that early childhood development programs and services are universally and continuously available for children until the beginning of kindergarten. Proper parenting, nurturing and health care during these early years will provide the means for California’s children to enter school in good health, ready and able to learn, and emotionally well developed.
TCCFC began March 1, 1999. Ordinance 1719 states of the nine (9) member commission one member shall be from the Board of Supervisors, one member shall be the current Director of Tehama County Department of Social Service, one member shall be the current Director of the Health Agency, and one member shall be the current Superintendent of the Tehama County Department of Education. The Board of Supervisors through an application process shall appoint the remaining five members known as the “at large” members. List of Current Commissioners.
The Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of TCCFC were adopted on July 7, 2000. Ideally, county commissions can use Prop. 10 funding strategically; complementing existing funds to fill resource gaps and create new crosscutting projects that bring together resources from different programs and part of the community to serve young children in a new and more effective way.
The TCCFC meet at the Tehama County Department of Education, located at 1135 Lincoln Street in Red Bluff, on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 3 p.m. Your attendance is welcome!
